where there is love, there is life

I was just getting ready to go on my annual scrapbooking retreat on Whidbey Island with my friends this weekend when my husband called me to tell me his Dad was in the hospital and he needed to fly to Reno right away to be with him. He had been going through chemo treatments the past few months and had been very sick. We quickly put my husband on a plane and I prepared to go to my retreat *with* my baby (my friends were gracious enough to let me bring her and also their hubbies helped watch my older son so I could still go.) Unfortunately, my father-in-law passed away too quickly and my husband is now taking care of the funeral arrangements.

I made this scrapbook page on my retreat this weekend and felt like it would be appropriate to post it and dedicate it to my father-in-law Phil. It's a page about the love my two children have for each other. I know that Phil was extremely proud of his grandkids and loved them dearly, and the sentiment "Where there is love, there is life" is a remider to me that this love will not end even though he's no longer with us.

We were only given the opportunity to know Phil the past few years (my husbands parents were divorced when he was very young) but I will always be so grateful that he made the effort to become a part of our lives again...it has meant so much to my husband. I am so glad I was able to get to know him and that he was able to get to know his grandchildren. He was a very charming man (much like my husband) and I know that we meant a great deal to him. We will miss you Phil, and we love you!

This is so sad, and I am really sorry that your family has to go through this.

Your scrapbook page is beautiful, and it is great that your kids got to know their grandpa, even if he left way too soon.

Hugs and prayers.♥

Hi Tricia!
This is from Phil's sister, Susan Kasper(Ulberg). Thank you for the beautiful words you wrote about my brother. And thanks so much for being so kind and understanding. My sister Nancy and I were so happy to share this sad time with Phillip. Lots of laughter and tears helped us get thru everything. What a wonderful bonding experience. Now I know that we are truly Phillip's Aunts! Lots of Love from Aunt Susan and big hugs to your two sweet, beautiful kids!! (We know so much about them now!)
